How (I think) it works

To understand the approach I take to readings, I thought it would be useful to explain a bit about my personal beliefs around the Tarot and spirituality more generally. The following is my own, rather idiosyncratic, take on the Tarot and not a doctrine that you have to accept! Take what you like and leave what you don’t.

I was brought up Catholic and also have Scandi, Jewish and Romani heritage way back in the family tree, but I do not consider myself belonging to any religion and in fact have a very strong aversion to organised religion (I see you, Patriarchy). I am not a psychic or a mind reader, though I have had very powerful synchronicities play out throughout my life and have had numerous dreams of future events which came true, so I consider myself quite intuitive. I have flirted with Wicca and a few other New Age movements but at the end of the day I struggle with any kind of orthodoxy (and crystals are b*&%@y expensive!!) If had to categorise myself I guess I am now agnostic.

Paradoxically, I have no problem believing in ghosts, and perhaps more importantly the power and meaning of synchronicity. I think the Universe is stranger than we can understand for quantum-physical reasons we are only now uncovering, and I also believe that human consciousness – whether arising physically from the brain, or channeled from the collective unconscious, or both – is extremely powerful, quite possibly beyond the boundaries of our physical bodies. Time is not linear, though our physical bodies experience it as such.

I have absolutely no scientific basis for any of this by the way 🙂 But for what it’s worth, that is the way I currently see the world.

In my opinion, Tarot cards are not channelling an external spirit or influence. They are not using demonic or angelic forces. The cards are a mirror for our selves and how we relate to the world. They harness the power of synchronicity to tell us where we are now. In other words, they are a mirror for our current thoughts and feelings and an indication of where those might lead. Put a slightly different way: if our minds can act (as I believe) like radio receivers for broader consciousness, the tarot is the dial we can use to tune in to the broadcast we need to hear.

For most of the readings I do, I ask only for your name, and for you to tell me how many times (1-10) to shuffle the cards and at which number in the pack (1-68) I should cut the deck before making the spread. It’s only if you wish for a bespoke spread that you share with me what your specific situation or question is. Otherwise, I rely wholly on the imagery and combination of the cards to produce your reading, trusting to synchronicity and my understanding and experience of the cards that I can convey the information you need.
